intermix's fashion director interview with teen vogue

"Wondering what key pieces you need this season to be on trend for Fall? We sat down with Intermix's Fashion Director Sari Sloane to get her take on your ultimate wardrobe must-haves.

What are the key trends for Fall 2009?
As usual there are quite a few trends going into Fall 2009. The key is to know how to mix and match these trends and make them your own. The leather jacket is carrying through into fall. I'm seeing a lot of really interesting textured pieces that can add a lot to an outfit, such as layering it over a maxi dress.

Maxi dresses are also an item that we feel would be a trend for the season. It's easy, elegant and simplistic, yet when layered with a scarf and a cropped leather jacket, it can transform your look.

Plaid is back again from last season - with varying patterns seen on button down tops to kilt-inspired skirts that are a fun way to add pop to your outfit.

Another big trend is sequins. From layered tops, to shorts and skirts. From super shiny to uber-destroyed. The lustrous look is in. Whether they're adding depth to a t-shirt or a twist to your favorite skirt, sequins amplify your outfit.

What are the must-have accessories for the season?
Studs, buckles, belts, slouchy bags and chunky jewelry are all must-haves for the upcoming season. I can't stress enough the importance of layering your look. Throw on some bangles and some structured necklaces with a basic tee to liven up an outfit. Every girl should have a wonderfully worn in bag over their shoulder. Slouchy bags are a huge trend.

If you had to describe the overall mood for Fall's inspiration what would it be?
There are a lot of very different elements being pulled together to create one look. A peasant blouse with a military jacket embellished with burnished studs. Dark denim with a fantastic, colorful mohair or faux-fur jacket. Tie-die denim with a conservative jacket. There is definitely a combination of well-tailored pieces in navies, blacks and burgundy's along with the continuing rocker trend that is so easy to wear.

Please list your top styling tips for how to wear the trends this season.
The key to a great look is being able to interpolate your own sense of fashion with the current, trendy pieces of the moment. Take the staples you have in your closet and think of new and captivating ways to make them shine. Begin layering your pieces to add depth to your outfit. Start owning your look because when you own your look, others will notice.

As the person who determines the style for the brand, how do you see the Intermix woman?
She is fashion forward and confident. She is willing to take risks and wants the latest trends but also wants to look unique and feel she is ahead of the curve."

love love love this, i have my own little collection; starting with a beautiful coach one i got for Christmas last year, and has recently ended with two vintage ones from my nonna's HUGEEE closet

she tells me "take whatever you want samantha" in her thick Sicilian accent; of course i pick out a bunch of pieces and she yells at me that those are all things she still wants for herself, so i settle with just two; still very cute and very chic

its 11:46 and iv been sitting on facebook chatting with all of the eastcoast plus an additional girlfriends from school, and i think finally all conversations have come to an end...i ended with having a motivational talk to my friend about how he should get out of ncc and do somthing with his life...not realizing that he does have plans he just doesnt know where to start or how to get there, it blows my bind that hes in ny where all dreams come true and he still is a lost puppy...
i guess he just needs to realize for himself what he needs to do, i cant always be his mom

well now here i am almost 12 and watching house party 1 with my roommate,
books need to get read, but yet here i am watching a movie
